About John

I live in Lanarkshire, Scotland. I left school at 16 and after serving a four year apprenticeship I became a qualified electrician. And in the following years I progressed to become an electrical engineer.  I reached a crisis with addiction in my thirties and was guided into a 12 step recovery fellowship.  It took me a couple of years to come out of denial and begin my journey in recovery.  Then after about five years of recovery work, reading, researching and spiritual practise I awakened in June 2009 and my inner journey began.

The inner journey is a journey through our unconscious psyche. It is a voyage of self-discovery and self-transformation.  This is known as individuation.  Individuation is the process of bringing the unconscious into consciousness and becoming an integrated and aware person.  I kept a dream journal and taught myself analysis.  My inner journey was intense for the first four years during which I read a great deal and Carl Jung was my primary source.

In 2014 I changed my vocation and began working in mental health and addictions and in 2016 I gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling from Strathclyde University.  I enjoy writing and began publishing my essays on Academia.edu in 2018. I am currently taking a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.
